Intern Projects

We’re very proud that our interns don’t fetch coffee — they do real projects that have an impact on the high-performance building sector in NYC and beyond.

Over the years, interns have conducted a variety of research projects on topics including:

  • Facilities O&M (Operations & Maintenance) Practice at CUNY
  • Analysis of New York State residential-commercial energy efficiency and renewables potential
  • Energy Benchmarking of NYC Public Schools

BP Lab interns staffed the NYC Benchmarking Help Center in 2011, a service for commercial property owners and managers who were complying with a new city law (part of the Greener, Greater Buildings Plan) that requires that all buildings 50,000 square feet and above be energy benchmarked.

In summer 2011, two BP Lab interns created a case study of an energy-efficiency improvement project that a BOC graduate carried out at One Metro Tech in Brooklyn. You can read the case study here.

Many interns created posters that detailed their work, which they presented to real estate professionals as part of an event convened by BP Lab and NYSERDA. A selection of intern posters can be viewed here (link coming soon).
